“In my 25 years of investing in technology, I’ve never seen a shift as foundational as what we’re witnessing with AI. AI is redefining how we work and live. The unlock will be profound.”Chris Emanuel, Head, GIC Tech Investment Group
GIC recently partnered with Bain & Company to survey C-suite executives at 44 leading companies across its global network, primarily in the technology and financial services sectors, to better understand how businesses are adopting generative AI (Gen AI).
The survey shows that companies have moved from proof of concepts to deploying AI at scale, with almost every company surveyed having deployed at least one AI use case. Across these rollouts, Gen AI has met or exceeded expectations in 90% of deployments.
GIC x Bain Survey: Key Insights
- Strategic Priority: 16% of C-suites surveyed see Gen AI as their number one priority and 61% see Gen AI as a top three priority in the next 1-2 years. More than half (53%) have a defined vision, specifically enumerated key use cases, and a sequenced roadmap with value expectations for the technology.
- Early Impact: Companies are seeing, on average, an approximate 15% impact (increased revenue, decreased costs) from deploying Gen AI across a variety of use cases with an average improvement of 31% and 26% across customer service and new products/services respectively.
- Top Challenges: When asked why companies are not moving faster, the largest concerns were data security and privacy (36%), lack of in-house expertise and technical resources (32%), and unproven ROI of Gen AI (30%).
